Why Can't AI Find Your Business?
...it has a clarity problem!
AI is already part of how customers find and choose YOUR business. Not someday, not once the tech catches up, right now!
That's not the scary part. The scary part is this: AI can't confidently recommend a business that isn't clear about who it's actually for.
New financial year is a good moment to ask yourself an honest question. Do you actually know who your ideal customer is or are you still trying to be a good fit for everyone who walks past?
Trying to appeal to everyone is why no one finds you!
When a business tries to be for everyone, the message gets vague. Vague messaging is hard for a human to remember and it's even harder for AI to categorise and recommend with confidence.

Think about it from the other side. If someone asks an AI assistant for a recommendation, that assistant needs a clear signal: this business is for this kind of customer, in this kind of moment. If you are trying to everything to everyone, you're sending mixed signals and it's no good for creating a relationship with AI!!
Not all customers are equal and that's good news
This isn't about being exclusive for the sake of it. It's about being genuinely useful to the right person instead of vaguely okay for everyone.
Businesses that get found, remembered and recommended, by humans and AI, are the ones that know exactly who they're best for. That clarity does the work of a hundred keywords.
The moments that actually influence the decision
Customers aren't just Googling any more, in fact Google doesn't even Google any more! They're asking AI assistants for recommendations, reading AI-generated summaries and trusting tools that quietly filter their choices before they ever see a website.
If your business hasn't clearly defined who it's for, none of that filtering works in your favour. You're not invisible because of bad luck. You're invisible because the signal isn't clear enough to pick up.
A five-minute reset
Grab a pen and answer this properly, no really take a minute:
- Who is the one type of customer you're genuinely best at serving?
- What do they actually want when they choose your business?
- What would make them choose you over a similar option right next door?
Get specific. "Families" isn't specific. "Families on a school holiday road trip who want a stop that doesn't feel like a compromise" is.
Before you worry about hashtags, ads or algorithms, it's worth checking something more basic: can AI even find you right now, for the customer you actually want?
